Quader Mirza submits Obaidul Quader’s nomination papers, calls for fair polls

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader's nomination papers have been filed by his younger brother, Abdul Quader Mirza, also the mayor of Basurhat municipality in Noakhali's Companiganj.
He submitted the nomination papers to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mezbah Ul Alam Bhuiyan on Wednesday morning.
Afterwards, Quader Mirza said: "We filed the nomination papers of our beloved leader, three-time Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, with various levels of party leaders and activists. We will request the administration for a free, fair, and impartial election. Not just in Bangladesh, our leader is renowned worldwide; so we want a fair election in his constituency.”
He further said: "We will earnestly strive on behalf of the party to ensure victory for boat (Awami League’s electoral symbol). We have regularly conducted meetings and processions. From December 4, we will hold centre-based meetings. Then we will go door-to-door to seek votes. We will take necessary measures to ensure that people spontaneously come to vote on January 7."
Earlier, a special prayer was organized at the party office to mark the occasion of Obaidul Quader's nomination filing.
Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, received the Awami League nomination as the sole candidate from the Noakhali-5 (Companiganj-Kabirhat) constituency. Candidates from the Jatiya Party and other parties will also contest in this seat.
Dewan Mahbubur Rahman, the district returning officer and Noakhali deputy commissioner, said: “Candidates are collecting and submitting their nomination forms to participate in the election. So far, no complaints related to the election have been reported. The situation in all six constituencies of the district is calm and normal.”
