Students at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) have persisted with their protest for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, announcing a class-examination boycott program.
This protest is in response to the late-night entry of central leaders of the Chhatra League onto the campus and includes a six-point demand for a political-free environment, among others.
Administrative activities at the university remain uninterrupted amid the ongoing student protests.
Additionally, the aggrieved students have initiated a social media movement with the hashtag "No_STUDENTS_POLITICS_IN_BUET" on their personal Facebook accounts. As part of this campaign, they have vowed not to resume academic classes until the campus reverts to its previous state, providing their names, terms, and sessions as identifiers.
On March 28, a group of Chhatra League leaders and activists entered the Buet campus under the leadership of its top leaders. In protest, Buet students initiated a movement on Friday.
During this time, the students presented a six-point demand, including enforcing the ban on student politics on campus.
Later, the Buet administration partially accepted the students' demands and published a notice. The notice signed by Buet Registrar Prof Dr Md Forkan Uddin said the cancellation of the accused student Imtiaz Hossain Rahim Rabbi's dormitory seat, formation of an investigation committee, and decisions to be taken according to the investigation while ensuring that all academic activities, including exams, would continue as scheduled.
Student political activities were prohibited at Buet following the murder of Abrar Fahad by Chhatra League members in the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 7, 2019.
