229 BGB platoons deployed across Bangladesh

Two hundred twenty-nine Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) platoons have been deployed across the country, including Dhaka. 

Md Shariful Islam, public relations officer of the BGB, confirmed the matter on Thursday morning.

He said in a press release that the deployment aimed to maintain law and order in light of a complete shutdown announced by quota reform protesters.

The Students Against Discrimination movement called for a peaceful "complete shutdown" across the country to push home its demand to reform the quota system in public service and protest attacks on student demonstrators.
