Bangladesh Police Subordinate Employees Association has announced an indefinite strike for the shake of their security.
The association issued a press release in this regard on Tuesday afternoon, reports Bangla Tribune.

Since the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina, the policemen have been suffering from fear and insecurity of life as police stations across Bangladesh have become common targets of miscreants.

In the past few days, many policemen have been killed in clashes with the protesters and Awami League leaders and activists demanding the fall of the government.

Hundreds of police stations and police establishments witnessed vandalism and arson attacks in various districts of the country including Dhaka.

Police headquarters were also set on fire after the fall of the government on Monday.

Since the resignation of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, there have been incidents of ambushes on policemen, murders of policemen, vandalism and arson, according to the release.

About 450 police stations were attacked in the country and countless policemen were killed which are linked with terrorist activities. In this situation, for the safety of the policemen, the association has announced an indefinite nationwide strike from August 6, the release added.

When contacted about this issue, several officers at the police headquarters declined to comment.

Under the condition of anonymity, several officials remarked: "The Bangladesh Police is operated under government directives. Officers are required to follow government orders, leaving little room for independent action.

“While it's true that certain officers have wronged the public, this does not apply to all members of the force,” they added.

A senior police official said that police will always work as per the directives of the government in power. Their actions in the past were driven by governmental orders, not by the police's own decisions. With the next administration, the police will be tasked with safeguarding public lives and maintaining law and order, once again following the government's directives.

He also said: “We want to appeal to the people of the country, do not misunderstand us. Police are people's friends. The police want to work together with the people”
