The Ministry of Jute and Textiles has expressed regret over the confusion caused by a request for a list of Hindu officials ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja and Vijayadashami celebrations at Bangabhaban.

The misunderstanding arose after an internal communication led to misconceptions about the purpose of the request.

In a revised statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry acknowledged the confusion and apologized for the situation.

The incident relates to a letter sent by the Office of the President on August 27, 2024, which requested a list of Hindu officials, specifically those at the rank of Joint Secretary or higher, employed under the Ministry of Jute and Textiles in Dhaka.

The purpose was to invite these officials to a greetings exchange event at Bangabhaban during the Durga Puja and Vijayadashami celebrations.

However, the ministry's internal communication with various departments and agencies did not clearly mention that the list was requested in connection with the greetings exchange event at Bangabhaban. This omission led to significant confusion.

In the revised press release, signed by the Ministry's Public Relations Officer, Asif Ahmed, the ministry explained, "Although the letter was transmitted with a reference to the Office of the President's request, the details regarding the upcoming Durga Puja and Vijayadashami celebrations at Bangabhaban were not mentioned. This has caused considerable confusion."

The ministry also announced that it has launched an investigation into those involved in the communication process, with a committee already formed to look into the matter.

The ministry reiterated its sincere apologies for the misunderstanding and affirmed its commitment to ensuring clearer communication in future correspondences.
