At least 426 people, including 61 women and 53 children, were killed and 813 injured in 392 road accidents across country in September. The Road Safety Foundation made the disclosure in a report on Monday.
Among the dead, 25 were bus passengers, 22 were truck, pickup, tractor, or trolley riders, 24 were car or microbus passengers, 63 were riding three-wheelers like easybikes and CNG-run auto-rickshaws, six were passengers on local three-wheelers (Nasimon, Bhatbhati, Alamsadhu), and 10 were bicycle and manual rickshaw riders, the organization.
Saidur Rahman, executive director of the foundation, said during the period, 164 motorcycle accidents resulted in the deaths of 179 people, accounting for 42 percent of the total number of fatalities.
There were also eight waterway accidents, where 11 people were killed, four injured and two are still missing.
Besides, some 17 train track accidents led to 13 deaths and nine injuries.
The report was compiled based on information from nine national dailies, seven news portals, various electronic media, and their own data.
The organization’s observation and analysis indicate that the accidents occurred in the following locations: 162 on national highways, 144 on regional roads, 47 on rural roads, 34 on city roads, and five in other locations.
