No decision to remove President: Press Wing

The interim government has not taken any decision so far to remove President Mohammad Shahabuddin.

Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir made the disclosure this to reporters at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday.

Apurba Jahangir also stated that the Chief Adviser agrees with the opinion of legal advisor Dr Asif Nazrul regarding President Mohammad Shahabuddin.

On the other hand, the coordinator of the movement, Hasnat Abdullah, made this demand in a mass rally at the central Shaheed Minar in the afternoon and demanded the removal of the president within this week.

Earlier, regarding the President's comments on the former Prime Minister's resignation letter Asif Nazrul commented: “The President said that he has not received the resignation letter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It's a lie. This is like a violation of his (President's) oath."

Jahangir replied to the question whether it is Asif Nazrul's personal opinion, or the opinion of the entire advisory council including the chief adviser.

He said: “The government agrees with what legal adviser Asif Nazrul said.”

In response to a question whether any initiative will be taken to remove the President, he said, no initiative has been taken so far.

When asked about any future plans to remove the President, Jahangir replied: "Only future will say."

The Chief Adviser's Press Wing also announced that the Interim Government Advisory Council has decided to restrict tourist access to St Martin Island for four months, from November to February, with plans for cleanup in February.
