Chief Justice, two advisers discuss President issue

Two advisers of the interim government held a meeting with Bangladesh's Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed.

The meeting took place on Tuesday around 2:30pm and lasted for about half an hour.The information has been confirmed by several competent sources from the Supreme Court.

According to the sources, the two advisers who met with the chief justice were Dr Asif Nazrul, adviser to the Ministry of Law, and Md Nahid Islam, adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Although some students also accompanied them to the Supreme Court, they did not attend the meeting.

Md Nahid Islam, the adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, entered the Supreme Court at 2:15pm.

Regarding the discussion between the Chief Justice and the advisers, sources revealed that the topic of the presidency was discussed.

The conversation also included the possibility of appointing Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed as the next President of Bangladesh and making the current senior judge of the Appellate Division, Md Ashfaqul Islam, the next Chief Justice of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Hasnat Abdullah, demanded the resignation of President Mohammed Sahabuddin by Thursday during a rally held at the Central Shaheed Minar.

Another coordinator, Abdul Hannan Masud, echoed the same demand at the rally.

The rally at the Shaheed Minar was organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to demand President Mohammed Sahabuddin's resignation, following his controversial remarks about the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

During the rally, one of the leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement said: “Your time is up. The students and the people no longer want to see you as President. Either you resign, or the students and the public will surround Bangabhaban, forcing you to flee like Hasina. All accomplices of the autocrats must be removed from every place. The Chhatra League must be banned."
