The Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Health Dr Sayedur Rahman announced on Thursday that individuals injured in the July movement will receive unique ID cards to guarantee lifelong medical care.
The process is set to be completed by December, with a written outline available within the next five days.
Following a meeting with six advisers and injured students at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Sayedur said: “Injured freedom fighters will receive unique ID cards to access free services at all government healthcare facilities. Additionally, they’ll receive free care at private hospitals with government contracts.”
He further added that a support centre will be established after November 17 to assist with various solutions for the injured, and all government hospitals will have designated beds and be integrated into a unified network across Dhaka.
The meeting, initially scheduled for 2pm, faced delays due to coordination issues among advisers and began two and a half hours late.
The announcement follows Wednesday’s incident at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in Agargaon, where injured protestors blocked roads from noon to midnight, demanding better treatment and financial support.
The protest ended after four advisers met with the injured at the ministry, assuring them that their demands would be addressed.
