Jamaat not in favor of banning political parties: Secretary General

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar has said that his party opposes the banning of any political organization, including its rivals.
Speaking at a member (Rukon) conference at Dr Shaheed Samnuzzhoha Park in Meherpur on Friday, he reiterated Jamaat’s commitment to the democratic process and dialogue with all political parties, including the BNP and Islamic groups.

Addressing the issue of banning political organizations, Parwar recalled that Jamaat was banned four days before August 5. However, he claimed that the Awami League and Chhatra League could not last even four days after that.

He said that widespread public outrage forced Sheikh Hasina and her family to flee the country.

He said: "The people will decide whether the Awami League can contest the elections."

Parwar also asserted that Sheikh Hasina would be brought to justice through a legal process, emphasizing that punishment would be implemented accordingly.

He further said that elections should only be held after national reforms are completed. He argued that a fair election environment could only be created following the reform of the Election Commission, police administration, and the executive department.

Among others, Jamaat Central Council Member Mubarak Hossain, District Ameer Maulana Tajuddin Khan, and several central and district-level leaders were present at the event.
