Another case has been filed in connection with the recent clash between police and supporters of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari at the Chittagong court area.
Businessman Mohammad Ullah Chowdhury, a resident of the Khulshi area in the city, lodged the complaint on Tuesday evening at the Kotwali police station, said Kazi Md Tarek Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of CMP.
The case names 29 individuals, identifying them as leaders and activists of the Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, Awami League, and International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon).
Additionally, 40 to 50 unidentified individuals have been implicated.
Tarek Aziz said: “In the newly filed case, 29 individuals, including two former ward councilors, have been named as accused, along with 40 to 50 unidentified persons.”
According to the complaint, the plaintiff, a businessman, had visited a lawyer's chamber on November 26 for legal advice related to his business.
As he was leaving around 3:30pm, he encountered a group allegedly comprising members of the Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, Awami League, and Iskcon, armed and standing in the vicinity.
The plaintiff claimed the group approached him, noticing his cap (kufi), shouted, “Shibir Dhar, Shibir Dhar.”
Fearing for his safety, he ran into the alley near Rangam Cinema Hall, where 30 to 40 unidentified individuals, including the accused, reportedly attacked him.
At one point, an assailant struck him on the head with an iron rod, causing severe injuries.
One of the accused, identified as Bijoy, allegedly threatened to slit his throat with a knife.
The attackers fled the scene after detonating cocktail when onlookers intervened.
Later, the plaintiff took a CNG-run auto-rickshaw to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for treatment.
