Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that the government has established a seven-member commission to reinvestigate the tragic 2009 Pilkhana massacre.
The decision was approved by the Chief Adviser on Sunday night.
Speaking at a program at the BGB headquarters in Pilkhana, Jahangir Alam described the commission’s formation as a significant step toward addressing the long-standing demand of the nation for clarity and justice regarding the February 25-26 carnage.
The massacre claimed the lives of 74 people, including 57 army officers, in one of the darkest chapters of Bangladesh’s history.
The commission will be led by former BGB Director General Maj Gen (retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman.
Its members will include two representatives from the armed forces, one from the civil service, one police representative, and professors from Dhaka University and Jagannath University.
This initiative follows a previous statement by Adviser Jahangir on December 17, in which he pledged to form a committee within five working days to reinvestigate the killings.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability for the horrific events.
The formation of this commission marks a pivotal move toward providing justice for the victims and their families while addressing the demands for transparency in one of the nation’s most harrowing tragedies.
