We will build a nation to be proud of if we come to power: Jamaat Ameer

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has vowed to establish a nation to be proud of, free from corruption, discrimination, and violence, if his party comes to power.
The Jamaat chief made the promise on Tuesday as chief guest during a rally at the Islamia High School grounds in Gaibandha.

He said: "Ensuring that the people of Gaibandha are not deprived will be my primary focus. Initiatives will be taken to establish industries for agricultural development along with education and healthcare for the people of the district. Unemployment will be eradicated by providing jobs or employment opportunities for the educated youth."

Dr Shafiqur said: "The Pilkhana massacre and the brutal killings of Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists at Shapla Square were carried out ruthlessly. Thousands of bodies were dumped into drains under the cover of darkness.

"Despite being indirectly involved in these events, the authoritarian Awami League government staged various dramas. After the Pilkhana massacre, the names and uniforms of the BDR members were changed."

He continued: "Yet, to this day, the investigation report of this incident has not seen the light of day. The fascist Sheikh Hasina regime mocked the killings of Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists at that time in a display of arrogance. However, in a twist of fate, today she herself has fled and has not even been able to provide any solace to her party leaders and activists."

The Jamaat ameer further said: "Over the past 15 and a half years, bloodshed and countless deaths have occurred across the country. Thousands of human beings who fell victim to abduction and murder remain unaccounted for.

"During Sheikh Hasina's rule, the people endured repeated oppression, tyranny, and persecution. Moreover, in 2006, the Awami League government carried out the horrific 'logi-boitha' violence, killing 54 people and dancing on their corpses."
