Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said Bangladesh’s border with Myanmar is completely under the control of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

“There is no reason for Bangladesh to worry. The border of Bangladesh along Myanmar is now under complete control of the BGB,” he said while speaking as chief guest at a passing out parade and formal oath-taking of 695 soldiers under the 102nd batch at the Bir Uttam Mojibur Rahman Parade Ground of the Border Guard Training Centre and College in Satkania, Chittagong, on Tuesday morning.

Of them, 649 male and 46 female recruits under the 102nd batch have successfully completed their basic training that began on July 30.

The home adviser greeted the newly recruited soldiers and asked them to perform their professional duties with utmost devotion, sincerity, professionalism and patriotism.

Describing BGB personnel as the symbol of security and trust of the border, he said: "I firmly believe that you will give your lives to protect the motherland if necessary. But you will not let even an inch of the country's soil go. I want to believe that you will not disappoint us.”

“This has been possible only because of your rigorous training, relentless efforts, sincerity and indomitable enthusiasm. Remember, when you are deployed on the border, the image and glory of this force will depend on your honesty, dedication and professional skills."

Jahangir described the BGB as a well-organized, smart, disciplined and professional patriotic force.

“The force has been fulfilling the great responsibility of protecting the 4,427-kilometer-long border of Bangladesh and providing security to land and resources along the border with great determination and success,” he said.

He said all BGB personnel have been leaving their mark in checking any kind of border crime including smuggling, women and child trafficking at the border.

“Not only that, the civil administration with the help of Border Guard Bangladesh has been able to earn the trust of the entire country by performing its duties with a great reputation,” he said.

The home affairs adviser said: "On this auspicious occasion today, I remember with deep respect and pray for the forgiveness of the souls of all those fearless members who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the motherland in the Liberation War in 1971.”

Jahangir also recalled with gratitude the martyrs and injured of the July uprising and said BGB personnel had declared solidarity with the demand of the students and people during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

“The BGB has set an example by extending cooperation to the families of the martyrs and injured persons of the July uprising,” he said.

BGB Director General (DG) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui was present at the ceremony. Senior military and civilian officials were also present.
