The united coalition of doctors and medical students' organizations, "United Medical Organizations of Bangladesh," has demanded that the age limit for doctors in the BCS examination be raised to 34 years.

This demand was made at a press conference held on Monday in the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah Hall of the National Press Club.

During the press conference, Dr Mobarak Hossain, spokesperson for the United Medical Organizations of Doctors, said: "The notification for the 47th BCS examination, published on November 28, 2023, mentions the age limit for applicants as 21 to 32 years. While it takes a minimum of 4 years to complete a bachelor's degree for general BCS applicants, it takes a minimum of 6.5 years for doctors to complete their MBBS/BDS degree and internship."

He further said: "Previously, when the general age limit for BCS applicants was 30, the age limit for doctors was 32. However, in the latest notification, while the age limit has been raised by two years for general candidates to 32, the limit for doctors has not been increased."

He claimed the current policy creates inequality for doctors and emphasized the need to increase the age limit for doctors in the BCS examination to 34 years.

He urged the authorities to issue a relevant notification without delay.
