7 arrested while preparing for robbery in Hazaribagh

Seven individuals were arrested while preparing for a robbery in the Hazaribagh area of the capital.


They were apprehended during a joint operation by the Hazaribagh police and the army near the Beribadh section of Hazaribagh at around 11:45pm on Monday.  


The arrested individuals are identified as Md Sagar alias Bullet, 20, Md Robiul Sani, 20, Md Bappi, 25, Jibon alias Hridoy, 2, Md Akash alias Rana, 28, Md Imon Hossain, 22 and Md Maruf, 28.

Authorities recovered two sharp knives, two switchblades, two machetes and a hammer from their possession.

Deputy Police Commissioner (DMP) of the Public Relations Department Muhammad Talebur Rahman provided the information on Tuesday.  

He said: “On Monday night, we received secret information that some miscreants were preparing for a robbery in front of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib School and College near the Beribadh section of Hazaribagh. Following this tip, the police and army conducted a joint operation at the location. During the operation, seven individuals were arrested with local weapons while attempting to flee."

He further said: "Four to five unidentified individuals managed to escape. A case has been filed at Hazaribagh Police Station against the seven arrested individuals and the unidentified suspects.”  

The police official revealed that the arrested individuals were members of an organized robbery and snatching gang.

They have been involved in coordinated robberies and snatching incidents across Hazaribagh, Mohammadpur and other areas of Dhaka for a long time.

Among them, Sagar, Robiul, Bappi, and Akash have multiple cases filed against them in various DMP police stations, including charges of robbery, snatching, theft, drug-related offences, attempted murder and assault.
