Police officers dismissed under Awami League rule demand reinstatement

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka

Police officers "illegally" dismissed during the Awami League government's tenure held a sit-in on Wednesday in front of the Police Headquarters demanding the reinstatement of their jobs.

They said they do not want to be victims of discrimination and do not want any further delay in regaining their jobs, calling for their positions to be reinstated through an executive order.

Dismissed constable Jahid Hasan, who participated in the protest, said: "We have been demanding our jobs back for the last six months. Former home adviser Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain had issued an order for our reinstatement to the Police Headquarters, but it has not been implemented even after six months."

Additional police forces were deployed in front of the Police Headquarters, but traffic on the road remained normal.

DMP Ramna Division Deputy Police Commissioner Md Masud Alam said: "We have asked them to sit for talks, but they are not willing to do so."
