A Dhaka court on Monday sought necessary measures for an International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) red notice for the arrest of former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the directive following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Hafizul Islam.

Earlier, on December 15, the ACC filed four separate cases against former Benazir, his wife, and two daughters, accusing them of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk74 crore and concealing asset information.

According to the cases, Benazir acquired Tk9.44 crore in illicit wealth and concealed asset details worth Tk2.62 crore.

His wife, Zeeshan Mirza, amassed Tk31.69 crore in undisclosed wealth and hid information regarding Tk16.01 crore.

Their elder daughter, Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir, obtained Tk8.75 crore illegally, while their younger daughter, Tahseen Raisa Binte Benazir, acquired Tk5.59 crore in illicit assets.

Earlier, on June 12 last year, a court ordered the seizure of eight flats and 25 acres of land owned by Benazir Ahmed, his wife, and their children.

These properties include flats in Badda and Adabor, as well as land in Narayanganj, Bandarban, and Uttara.

Additionally, in two separate orders, the court seized 621 bighas of land in Gopalganj and Madaripur, shares in 19 companies, and four flats in Gulshan belonging to Benazir and his family.

Furthermore, the court ordered the freezing of savings certificates worth Tk30 lakh, 33 bank accounts, and three Beneficiary Owners (BO) accounts used for stock trading.
