Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has affirmed that human rights violations will not be tolerated in any way during Operation Devil Hunt.
He made the statement during a meeting with a three-member BNP delegation led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday evening. BNP Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmad and Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed were also present.
Following the meeting, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed the media at the Foreign Service Academy, saying the operation is targeting individuals involved in crimes, injustice, and oppression based on specific allegations.
"We are closely monitoring the operation. We do not want any human rights violations, and it will not happen," Shafiqul quoted Yunus as saying.
During the discussion, the BNP leaders emphasized the need to ensure peace and stability in the country, withdraw politically motivated cases filed during the previous regime, and prevent any human rights violations during Operation Devil Hunt.
They also called for early national elections, to which the chief adviser responded that the National Consensus Commission is working on it, reaffirming two possible election dates: December 2024 or June 2025.
Additionally, the BNP delegation expressed support for the interim government’s reform initiatives, saying the party remains beside the government.
Addressing concerns about public security, Shafiqul emphasized that the interim government is highly committed to ensuring the safety of every citizen.
He added that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to prevent any human rights violations.
