Tensions erupted at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) as two student groups engaged in a chase and counter-chase over demands to ban student politics on campus.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, and the situation inside Kuet remains highly tense.
According to eyewitnesses, some students marched around the university dormitories chanting slogans such as “No place for student politics at Kuet,” “We demand a politics-free campus,” and “Student politics will not exist here.”
The tension escalated in front of the central mosque, leading to a chase and counter-chase that later spread outside Kuet.
At the Kuet pocket gate, outsiders joined one group and became involved in the clashes, resulting in several injuries.
Ambulances were seen transporting the injured to hospitals one after another, with at least four ambulances already dispatched.
This further intensified tensions among general students.
Some outsiders vandalized a Kuet vehicle, while students attacked several houses near the university’s main gate.
Khan Jahan Ali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kabir Hossain said: “Tensions erupted between two student groups at Kuet, leading to a chase and counter-chase. We are working to bring the situation under control.”
