First consignment of hilsa sent to India

Bangladesh exported the first consignment of 12 tonnes of hilsa fish to India through Benapole port on Thursday afternoon.

The export price of per kilogramme of hilsa was $10 (Tk 1180 per kg).

After completing the customs and port formalities, the hilsa consignment was sent to the Petrapole port in India.

Fishery Quarantine Officer of Benapole Land Port Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that the Ministry of Commerce has given permission to 49 companies to export 2,420 tonnes of hilsa on the occasion of upcoming Durga Puja. In that context, today we permitted to export 12 tonnes of hilsa to India through Benapole land port.

Hilsa is exported to India under duty free facility.

Since 2012, Bangladesh has been exporting hilsa to Kolkata during Durga Puja.
