The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have clarified their position in view of the anger of the students regarding the inclusion of seven government colleges in the capital after the Advisory Council of the Interim Government.
This has been informed in a circular sent by the public relations office of DU on Friday (November 1)
The circular mentions that the DU authorities “were not aware of the matter”, however, they have come to know about this decision of the Advisory Council from the reports published in various media.
According to the circular, the attention of the university authorities has been drawn to a report published in various media citing the meeting of the Advisory Council on October 31 regarding seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU). As per the report – according to the decision of the Advisory Council meeting, there will be a “completely separate administrative system” in DU for the maintenance of seven government colleges, where there will be a “separate” registrar and other officials. However, these colleges will remain affiliated to Dhaka University.
Stating that the DU authorities are not aware of the matter, the circular said that the DU authorities have come to know about this decision of the Advisory Council from the reports published in various media.
“The ministry has not had any formal discussions with Dhaka University authorities regarding this proposal,” it also says, adding: “After learning about the matter, the university authorities immediately discussed with various high levels of the government including the advisers concerned with utmost importance.”
The government also responded with sincerity considering the public importance of the matter. The government has agreed to organize an urgent meeting on this matter at the ministry level with the concerned students and the main stakeholders soon (probable date Sunday, November 3), the circular added.
Mentioned that the students of seven government colleges have been demanding the establishment of an independent university and the students of Dhaka University to cancel the affiliation of seven government colleges for a long time.
