A Sylhet court on Tuesday granted bail to former Supreme Court Appellate Division justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik in a case related to illegal border crossing.
However, due to other cases pending against him in different parts of the country, he has been ordered to remain in jail.
Sylhet Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Anjan Kanti Das granted his bail.
Sylhet Court Inspector Jamshed Alam confirmed the matter.
He stated that the former justice Manik was presented in court under tight security before the court proceedings began to show his arrest in the Kanaighat case.
At that time, his lawyer applied for bail in this case, which the court granted.
On August 25, Manik was severely injured in a physical assault at the Sylhet court premises and was admitted to the hospital. According to hospital sources, several injuries were found on his body, including a ruptured testicle.
Former justice Manik was apprehended by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while attempting to cross into India through the Kanaighat (Dona) border in Sylhet on August 23.
He was handed over to Kanaighat police later.
