The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) yesterday ordered banks to freeze the accounts of ex Cumilla-6 MP AKM Bahauddin and his daughter and former Cumilla city Corporation mayor Tahsina Bahar Suchona.

At the same time, BFIU asked banks to freeze accounts of Bahar’s wife Meherunnesha, daughters Ayman Bahar and Aziza Bahar and his son-in law Saiful Alam Roni.

The BFIU's directive was given under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012. At the same time, directives were given to suspend transactions of businesses owned by all these individuals.

A senior official of BFIU confirmed this information to The South Asian Times on Thursday (September 26).

He said that banks asked to suspend all transactions of the persons for the next 30 days.
