AL leader held while fleeing to Australia with husband

Shirin Chowdhury, chairman of Agla Union Parishad under Nababganj upazila of Dhaka and Dhaka District Mohila Awami League vice-president, has been arrested by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.

She went to the airport on early Wednesday (September 26) along with her husband to go abroad.

As immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport became suspicious, Shirin Chowdhury introduced herself at a union parishad chairman. When contacted with Nababganj Police Station, the immigration police learnt that there were cases pending against Shirin Chowdhury. Then she was arrested and later handed over to Nababganj police.

Nababganj Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Mominul Islam said Agla Union Parishad chairman Shirin Chowdhury and her husband Mahfuzur Rahman alias Masudur Rahman went to the airport at 12:00 noon to go to Australia. When the immigration police contacted with Nababganj Police Station, they learnt that there were two cases pending against her. Then they were detained.

The OC further said the immigrtation police handed over the arrested persons to the Nababganj police on Wednesday afternoon. They are now under the Nababganj police station custody.
