Ex minister Faruk Khan arrested

Former Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Faruk Khan was arrested Monday night.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB) Rezaul Karim Mallik confirmed the matter.

A madrasa student named Suman Islam, 25, was shot dead in a July protest. His mother Kajoli filed a case at Savar police station against Lt. Colonel (retd) Faruk Khan. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana, son Sajib Wazed Joy, and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's security adviser Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique were accused of Savar Ashulia police station.

On August 5, the Awami League government fell through Sheikh Hasina's escape. Suman Islam was shot dead at Bipail at around 8 am that morning. Suman Islam is the son of Abdul Hamid of Aminnagar Shikarpur village of Boda police station in Panchagarh.

It is to be noted that Faruk Khan was the MP from the Gopalganj-1 constituency (3 unions of Muksudpur and Kashiani upazilas) in the twelfth parliamentary election.
