Man shot dead in ‘gunfight’ in Mohammadpur

A man was shot dead in the capital’s Geneva Camp on Wednesday night during a gunfight between two groups.

The deceased has been identified as Md Shanemaz, 38, an employee at a restaurant.

The incident occurred around 10:45pm.

Shanemaz, who was critically injured after being shot, was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the doctors declared him dead at around 11:30pm.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, confirmed the matter and said the body was kept at the hospital morgue.

The concerned police station has been informed, the inspector added.

Shanemaj was the son of Abu Bakr Siddique from Mohammadpur's Geneva Camp. He was brought to the hospital by his neighbor Md Shafik, who said that around 10:45pm, a gunfight took place between two groups in Geneva Camp.

Shanemaz was returning home from work at the time and was standing by the road observing the situation when a bullet hit him in the chest, he added.
