ICT starts trial for July-August mass killings

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has officially initiated the trial for the mass killings that occurred during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in July and August.

The proceedings began at 11:30am on Thursday under the leadership of ICT Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza.

According to sources, on the first day, the prosecution team will request arrest warrants for 50 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina.

On October 15, Justice Golam Mortuza, newly appointed as the tribunal's chairman, made his first appearance at the International Crimes Tribunal.

Tribunal members Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District and Sessions Judge Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury also attended that day.

To date, over 60 allegations, including enforced disappearances, murders, and mass killings, have been submitted to the tribunal against Sheikh Hasina, leaders of the Awami League, members of the 14-party alliance, journalists, and former senior law enforcement officials.
