Former Habiganj-4 lawmaker Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon has been put on a five-day remand in a case filed over the killings during the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August.

Police produced him before Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Tuesday (October 22) morning and sought permission to interrogate him for 10 days in custody. The court accepted the plea.

Sumon was arrested in Dhaka in the early hours of Tuesday. He went into hiding after the fall of Awami League government on August 5.

The independent MP was known for frequently going live on Facebook to discuss various issues. He contested the controversial January polls as an independent candidate after failing to secure the Awami League’s nomination.
