A court in Khulna today sentenced 21 accused to life imprisonment in the sensational murder case of college student Hasibur Rahman Niaz in Khalishpur of Khulna city. At the same time, each of the accused has been fined Tk 20,000 and six months of rigorous imprisonment in default of payment.
The accused are – Saikat, Mehedi Hasan Rabbi, Rowshan Aniji Antu, Sajjad Hossain, Emdadul Islam Hridoy, Arif aka Chora Arif, Md. Munna, Rafiqul Hasan Shawon aka Atang Babu, Saiful Islam, Mostak Ahmed, Mithai Hridoy, Fahim aka Kala Fahim, Rubel, Mizanur Rahman, Sabuj, Arafat Hossain, Ashiqur Rahman Tushar, Rabbi aka Nata Rabbi, Yasir Rabbi aka Nata Jewel, Shakib Sheikh, Naimur Rahan Fahim, and Muhit Muntasir Ithun.

The judgment in the murder case of Hasibur Rahman Niaz, a popular Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader of Khalishpur Haji Muhammad Mohsin College, was declared after 4.2 years.
Romana Tanha, the state lawyer of that court, confirmed the verdict.
According to court sources, on 19 August 2020 around 9 pm, a group of miscreants hacked a college student named Hasibur Rahman Niaz – son of Md. Habibur Rahman, a mill worker and resident of Tayyeba Colony – to death with sharp weapons in Creative Carts and Coffee House adjacent to Khalishpur Wonderland Shishu Park — for protesting the sale of drugs in the area. At that time, when two friends Jobair and Rana came forward to save him, they were also hacked and injured. The video footage of the killing went viral.
In this regard, the father of the deceased, Habibur Rahman, filed a case at the Khalishpur police station as a plaintiff the next day after the incident. College student Hasib was killed led by Rowshan Aniji Antu, son of Awami League leader Sharmin Rahman Shikha.
The accused whose bail were scrapped are – Swechasebak League leader Rowshan Anito Antu and Faizur Rahman Arafat, Sajjad, Saiful, and 16 others. Three accused including Shakib and Fahim in the Hasib murder case have given a confessional statement in the court.
However, as the accused Ithun is young, he will be tried in the children’s court. “Ithun was acquitted in the verdict,” said the plaintiff’s relatives.
The trial process of the discussed murder case of Hasibur Rahman Niaz, 25, a college student in Khalishpur of the city was started in the speedy trial tribunal. Later, the court transferred the case to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal as the trial was not completed within the stipulated time.
Habibur Rahman Shikder, the plaintiff in the case and the father of the deceased, filed GDs in different police stations several times due to a lack of security.
