The rule hearing on the legality of the 15th amendment that scrapped the provision of caretaker government system in the constitution will be held at the High Court on October 30.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury on Tuesday fixed October 30 for the hearing on the rule following a petition submitted by the state.

Additional Attorney General Mohammad Arshadur Rouf was present before the court on behalf of the state.

A High Court bench on August 19 issued the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik-SUJON Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder and four others.

Advocate Sharif Bhuiyan moved the petition, while Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman argued for the state on that day.

The 15th amendment was brought to the constitution during the then Awami League government on June 30 in 2011. The provision of the caretaker government system was also scrapped on that day. Besides, the number of reserved seats for women on the parliament was increased up to 50 from 45.
