Students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University gathered at the Nilkhet intersection in the capital on Monday, demanding separation from the university and the establishment of an independent institution.

On Monday from 10:30am, students from the seven affiliated government colleges began assembling at Nilkhet in groups to protest.

Zakaria, a representative of the Seven College Reform Movement and a student of Kabi Nazrul Government College, said: "We, the students of the seven colleges, are organizing a human chain and protest in Nilkhet today with the goal of implementing three specific action plans as part of our demand for an autonomous university."

The three demands of the students are:

  1. A reform committee must be formed as soon as possible to work toward creating an autonomous public university for the seven colleges.
  2. The reform committee should, within 30 working days, develop a detailed plan for establishing an independent university for the seven colleges after consulting with the teachers, students, and stakeholders of these institutions.
  3. The reform committee should coordinate with the Dhaka University administration to ensure that the current academic structure remains functional and does not lead to session backlogs or other complications for regular students

The seven affiliated colleges are Dhaka College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls' College, Eden Mohila College, Government Bangla College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Government Titumir College, and Kabi Nazrul Government College.
