Failed HSC students lock Chittagong Board

Students who failed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations continued their protest for the second consecutive day by locking the Chittagong Education Board, demanding passing marks.

The students locked the board’s main gate during their sit-in around 2:00pm on Monday.

A similar protest took place on Sunday from 11am to 4:30pm at the board premises.

On Monday afternoon, students from various colleges gathered again and immediately locked the main gate.

The protesting students claimed that mistakes in subject mapping caused inaccurate results. They demanded that all students be passed by correcting the subject mapping and called for fair and unbiased results.

The HSC results, published on October 15, showed 106,298 students registered in Chittagong, with 105,416 attending and 74,125 passing. The pass rate was 70.72 percent.

The protesting students argued that their answer sheets were not evaluated properly and that subject mapping led to discrimination. They demanded that all students be passed in every subject.

Chittagong Education Board Chairman Rezaul Karim responded by saying: "The students' demands have already been communicated to the higher authorities.”

On Sunday, the students who failed in the HSC examination laid siege to education boards across Bangladesh, including Comilla, Jessore, and Chittagong, demanding the cancellation of the published results and a new evaluation.

The failed students staged demonstrations at the education boards with their single demand.
