Bangladeshi model Jessia Islam is under fire for participating in the Miss Grand International 2024 competition. Netizens are triggered after seeing Jessia wearing a swimsuit in a post where she asked people to vote for her.
On October 14, the verified Facebook page of the Miss Grand International 2024 pageant published the swimsuit photos of 70 contestants including Jessia. From them, the best 20 people will be selected by audience vote. That vote was requested by Jessia herself, on her social handle. Since then, the criticism of her and her clothes started circulating on social handles. A few people also stood by her. Stars including Pia Jannatul have praised Jessie's brave participation, asking for votes.
Jessia Islam entered the world of entertainment by winning the Miss World Bangladesh competition in 2017. She has been in the public conversation many times in various incidents, from relationships-breakups, acting-modelling to her clothing choices.
Now she is one of the faces of the Miss Grand International 2024 competition to be held in Cambodia. In the meantime, she has gone to Cambodia and participated in various events with various competitors.
According to the rules of the contest, audiences can click on the follow button on the verified page of Miss Grand International and then like or share the picture of Jessia or any other contestant. If you like, you will get 10 points and if you share the picture, 5 points will be added, said Jessia.
She asked for votes from everyone and said, “I am asking for votes from everyone. With everyone's help, I can become a champion.”
Meanwhile, Jessia also talked about the negative comments that spread on the internet after seeing Jessia in a swimsuit.
She respected everyone's comments and said, “Thank you very much for the comments and feedback you have given on my recent film. It is a matter of pride for me to represent Bangladesh at Miss Grand International, where I have the opportunity to participate with amazing women from Pakistan, Egypt, India and many other countries around the world.”
Regarding the swimsuit, Jessia said, “Swimsuit round is a part of the international competition, where all contestants participate. It is held not to hurt anyone's values, but to highlight the contestants' confidence, dedication to fitness and personality. It is a long-standing tradition, which embodies the values of global pageantry and promotes unity, diversity and mutual respect while respecting the cultures of different countries.”

It is my aim to represent Bangladesh and highlight our values, while at the same time using this wonderful opportunity to connect with different cultures around the world.
