Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam on Monday asked all the police unit chiefs to strengthen the on-going special drive against various criminal acts that include terrorism, extortion, drug, teen gangs and traffic management.
Since October 18, special operations have led to the arrest of 200 robbers, 16 terrorists, several snatchers, 1,140 people involved in attacks during protests, and 1,144 drug-related arrests.
The police force is taking action against those attackers during the anti-discrimination movement, accused murderers of important cases and charged people in other cases.
The agency is conducting combing operations in crime-prone areas of the country. Temporary checkposts, increased patrolling, and increased surveillance are going on to combat crime.
Hundred and fifty permanent and mobile checkposts are now working in the DMP areas. Besides, 300 motorcycle teams and 250 petrol teams are now functioning to ensure security.
Filing cases, arrests, and legal action are also ongoing against people involved in various types of misdeeds, including extortion, tender bidding, and terrorist activities under the umbrella of different political parties.
