Dengue: 8 more die; 1100 hospitalised in 24hrs

Eight dengue-related deaths have been recorded in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours as Bangladesh appears to be heading towards another massive outbreak, the health authorities say.

 “In the last 24 hours, 1100 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country,” said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday (October 17).

This year, the total number of cases rose to 47,050, while 234 deaths from dengue disease were reported during the period, the statement added.

According to DGHS, Bangladesh reported 101,354 dengue cases in 2019. In 2020, it confirmed 1,405 cases, while the number rose to 28,429 in 2021 and 62,382 in 2022.

Last year, the country recorded a massive number of fatalities, with 1,705 dengue-related deaths and a total of 3,21,179 dengue cases.
