‘ 97pc TB treatment success in Bangladesh’

Speakers at a workshop said every year at least 221 people per lakh are infected with tuberculosis (TB) in Bangladesh and of them 3300 are drug resistant (MDR) tuberculosis.

The success rate of treatment in the country is 97 percent. Despite the availability of advanced and free treatment, a large number of patients remain undiagnosed due to lack of public awareness and social prejudice, they said.

The disclosure came from workshop on ‘Establishment of Effective Partnership and Good Governance among Partners for Quality Control’ held at city hotel on Monday.

Br. Gen. Imrul Quais, Chief Health Officer North City Corporation, Dhaka, Dr. Afzalur Rahman, Deputy Director, Health, Dr. Ahmed Parvez Zbin, Divisional Expert, Global Fund, Shayla Islam, Assistant Director, BRAC and others give their valuable speech on TB.

A total of 40 representatives present, including officers of BRAC, ICDDRB, PhD, KMSS, NATAB, BGMEA, affiliated organizations involved in quality control programs. Program presented by Nari Maitree,

Eight countries account for two-thirds of the total number of patients in the  world. These countries are Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, China, Philippines, Pakistan and Nigeria.

Imrul Quais said that the government is working relentlessly to reduce TB. Which is contributing significantly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He said, government believes that AIDS, TB and Malaria can be cured and prevented. It requires commitment, determination and solidarity. Let us all pledge to eradicate it". Awareness should be raised in the regulation.
