Muslim devotees in Bangladesh are celebrating Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the day that marks the birth and passing of Prophet Muhammad (SM).

The Islamic Foundation has organised a 15-day programme, including milad events and special prayer sessions, in various mosques across the country, reports bdnews24.com.

Prophet Muhammad (SM) was born on the 12th of Hijri Rabi’ al-Awwal. The anniversary of his martyrdom falls on the same day. This day is also observed as a public holiday in Bangladesh.

On Sunday, AFM Khalid Hossain, the religious affairs advisor, inaugurated the Islamic Foundation’s programme at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Maghrib prayers.

The event also honoured award-winning Bangladeshi Huffaz who have competed internationally. After the Isha prayer, sermons, prayers, and discussions were held in various mosques in the capital.

According to a press release from the Islamic Foundation on Sunday, the organisation’s programmes include a 15-day series of sermons, events, special prayer sessions, seminars co-produced with Bangladesh Betar, Islamic cultural competitions, Arabic sermon writing contests, recitations, poetry readings, Islamic calligraphy exhibitions, Islamic book fairs, and the publication of special souvenirs and pamphlets.

In addition, a peace rally and seminar was held in the morning at the Engineers Institution in Ramna and Suhrawardy Udyan, organised by Anjuman-E Rahmania Mainia Maizbhandaria. At noon, the rally proceeded from the Engineers Institution to Shahbagh. The daylong programme will conclude with prayers in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, a special prayer session was organised by Gausia Rahman Manzil Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif in Mirpur 1. They have planned daylong events as well, which began with a Quran recitation after the Fajr prayer.

At 10am, a rally was organised by Rezvia Darbar Sharif in Purana Paltan to celebrate the occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

Prophet Muhammad (SM) was born in 570 AD into the Quraysh dynasty of Mecca in Arabia and passed away at the age of 63.
