Zia Orphanage Trust case: Khaleda’s leave to appeal hearing Nov 10

The Appellate Division has fixed November 10 as the date for hearing on a leave-to-appeal petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed is scheduled to hear the petition, Khaleda's lawyer, Barrister Kayser Kamal, said on Monday (November 4).

On November 3, the chamber court fixed November 10 for hearing two separate leave-to-appeal petitions filed by Khaleda Zia against the High Court verdict in the case. Chamber Justice of the Appellate Division Rezaul Haque fixed the day.

Khaleda Zia was jailed for five years in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on Feb 8, 2018, and her sentence was later extended to 10 years by the High Court in October of the same year.

She was also sentenced to seven years in prison on Oct 29, 2018, in the Zia Charitable Trust case.
