The death of Rahanuma Sarah, 32, a newsroom editor of Gazi TV, is still shrouded in mystery.

Her body was recovered from the city's Hatirjheel Lake in the early hours of Wednesday.

"Rahanuma’s body was found floating in the water of Hatirjheel Lake at about 2:00 am. Pedestrians saw her and took her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where physicians declared her dead," officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatirjheel police station Saiful Islam told the media .

Meanwhile, inspector-in-charge of DMCH police camp M Bachchu Mia said that the passers-by brought Rahanuma's body to the hospital around 2:30 am where the physician on duty declared her dead.

Deceased's husband Syed Shubra claimed that Rahanuma committed suicide. However, police said whether it was suicide or a murder can be confirmed only after port-mortem.

Rahanuma, who lived in a rented house in Kalyanpur in Dhaka with her husband, was the daughter of Bokhtiar Shikdar of Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali. She was the younger of the two sisters.

Syed Shubhra said they fell in love and got married without their family’s consent seven years ago.

He said there was no problem between them. However, Rahanuma had been looking for a separation for some days. They went to the kazi office for separation but could not complete the process.

According to the inquest report, Sarah Rahnuma's body has no injury marks. Hair, forehead and face are normal. However, fluid is coming out of the nose and nails appear blue.

It added, “No specific and significant reason is known about the cause of death of Sarah Rahanuma. However, it was learned that Sarah was floating unconscious in the Hathirjheel lake. There is no external injury or scratch on his body. No signs of sexual assault were found. As a result, an autopsy and other measures have been requested to find out the cause of death”.

Masudar Rahman also said that initially it can be assumed that he committed suicide. However, the cause of death will be definitively known after the post-mortem.

On Wednesday, the post-mortem of Rahanuma Sarah's body was completed at the Dhaka Medical College morgue. His family then took the body away. While taking the body, his elder sister Rabita Sarah said, "We will take the body to Mohammadpur and perform janaza there. Then I will bury her in Azimpur graveyard.

On the other hand, the media reports that Rahanuma Sarah is married. However, her elder sister Rabita Sarah claimed that neither I nor the family knew anything about the marriage. I believe this information is false. Later we will try to find out about this matter.
