Former president of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and veteran journalist Azmal Hossain Khadem passed away at a hospital in Dhaka early on Tuesday.
He was 76.
“Khadem breathed his last at 12 am while he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city’s Tejgaon area”, said the family sources of the deceased.
He will be buried at Banani Graveyard after a namaz-e janaza at Banani mosque after the Johr prayer.
He left behind three daughters, grandchildren, numerous relatives and well-wishers to mourn his last.
His two daughters are now in the United Kingdom (UK).
Born in Akhaura in Brahmanbaria in 1948, Khadem has served as a journalist for a long time in the then ‘Banglar Bani’.
Aside from that, he became famous for presenting ‘Sangbad Probaho’, a compiled speech of news review of Bangladesh, broadcasting on the Radio Bangladesh.
In the 80’s, the programme ‘Sangbad Probaho’ was a popular news review that was broadcast at 9pm every night.
Azmal Hossain Khadem was elected president of the DRU in 1998. He was a permanent member of different journalists’ organizations including the Jatiya Press Club (JPC).
JPC President Poet Hasan Hafiz and General Secretary Aiyub Bhuiyan, DRU President Syed Sukur Ali Shuvo and its General Secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed, and former DRU president Jamal Uddin have expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of noted Journalist Azmal Hossen Khadem.
In separate condolence messages, they sought eternal peace for the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. BSS
