Enayetullah Khan, Editor Emeritus of United News of Bangladesh (UNB) and Dhaka Courier, will represent Bangladesh at the Global South Media Summit in Brazil.
This landmark event, to be held on November 10-12, 2024 in Sao Paulo, brings together media leaders, policymakers and advocates from developing regions across Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The summit aims to amplify the voices of the Global South and address shared media challenges, such as misinformation, censorship, limited press freedom and resource constraints.
Through a series of discussions, workshops and panels, the summit will focus on building sustainable, independent media systems.
UNB Editor-in-Chief Enayetullah Khan invited to World Media Summit
A key theme is the role of digital technology in shaping public opinion and democratic engagement. Participants will discuss the opportunities and obstacles of new media platforms in regions where traditional journalism faces numerous barriers.
One of the summit’s central objectives is to promote regional cooperation, challenging the dominance of narratives from the Global North. By empowering media from the Global South, the summit hopes to create a more inclusive media landscape, enabling coverage of issues most relevant to their societies.
Mr Khan, a keynote speaker at the event, will discuss Bangladesh's changing media landscape, especially in light of the recent political changeover on August 5.
His address will emphasise the critical role of journalism in supporting democracy and contributing to balanced global storytelling, aligning with the summit's mission to reinforce the essential role of journalism in democratic societies.
