A devastating fire that broke out at the Gazi Auto Tyres Factory in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj is yet to be brought under control.

The fire broke out around 10:30pm on Sunday (25 August). Eleven firefighting units from Demra, Kanchpur, Adamji EPZ, and Kanchan Fire Station are working at the scene.

The fire could not be brought under control overnight. Fire officials said the situation was complicated by the infrastructure and combustible materials from tyre manufacturing inside.

The fire service said that the cause and extent of damage will be known when the fire is completely under control.

Locals say that after the arrest of Golam Dastagir Gazi, the former minister and chairman of Gazi Group, there has been massive looting in the factory. Hundreds of people were trapped inside at that time.

Meanwhile, the factory area became heavy with the cries of families waiting for the return of their relatives inside the building.
