None named among 30,000 sued over Aug 5 attack at EPZ Police Station in Ctg

A case has been filed over the vandalism, looting, and arson at the EPZ Police Station in Chattogram Metropolitan Police on the day of the fall of the Hasina-government.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Shakilur Rahman of the EPZ Police Station filed the case accusing 25,000 to 30,000 unknown individuals on Monday.

The case has been filed over the attack, vandalism, and looting of weapons at the EPZ Police Station. The case accuses 25,000 to 30,000 individuals, said Additional Police Commissioner (ADC-Media) Kazi Tarek Aziz of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

According to the case details, the amount of loss due to vandalism, looting and arson of the police station is Tk 1,29,40,000. It is also mentioned in the case that goods worth Tk 14,450,000 were looted.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Hossain of the EPZ Police Station said that on the afternoon of August 5, criminals attacked the EPZ Police Station. They looted and set fire to the station, destroying important documents and evidence of various cases. During this time, weapons and ammunition were also looted. A case has been filed against 25,000 to 30,000 unknown individuals under various sections of the Penal Code of 1860 and the Special Powers Act.

It should be noted that from July 16 to August 5, the country of Bangladesh was tumultuous with protests. It started with the quota reform movement, which later turned into a demand for the government's resignation. Faced with a popular uprising by students and the public,

Sheikh Hasina's government was eventually forced to resign. During the protests, more than 600 people, including children and women, were killed by the law enforcement agencies' bullets. Thousands were injured, including members of the law enforcement agencies.
