As many as 476 people died and 985 others were injured in 467 road accidents across the country in August, according to the Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.
Additionally, 10 accidents occurred on railways and 13 on waterways. In total, 490 accidents across road, rail, and waterways resulted in 534 deaths and 989 injuries, it said in a press release today (19 September).
Of these, 193 motorcycle accidents accounted for 206 deaths and 201 injuries, representing 41.32% of all accidents, 43.27% of all deaths, and 20.40% of all injuries.
He reports, signed by the organisation's Secretary General Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, was compiled based on media reports.
According to the Jatri Kalyan Samity report, the highest number of road accidents occurred in Dhaka with 117 incidents, 121 deaths, and 261 injuries, while the least occurred in Barishal with 27 incidents, 26 deaths, and 93 injuries.
It further said, 41.54% of the total accidents involved vehicles running over pedestrians, 33.19% were head-on collisions, 22.05% involved vehicles losing control and falling into ditches, 2.56% were due to various reasons, 0.42% were collisions with trains, and 0.21% were due to clothes caught in wheels.
