A man and a married woman was tied up with rope and tortured by a leader of Juba Dal leader for allegedly having an extramarital affair in Rajbari on Friday.  A video of the incident goes viral on social media.

The video shows that Raihan Khan, joint convener, Rajbari’s Basantapur Union Parishad (UP) unit of Juba Dal, the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), tied up two UP members with a rope and beat them with a stick.

One of the victim named Ujjal Sarkar, is a member of ward no. 9 and the woman is a reserved member of ward no. 4, 5 and 6 of the UP.

During the incident, Raihan was seen hurling abusing languages on the two UP members. At one stage Raihan removed the gold chain from the neck of the woman UP member.  The woman cried as saying ‘don’t take it … my husband gifted it at the time of my marriage.’

At one stage, another youth was seen coming from the side with a stick to beat up the two UP members. Many people were seen witnessing the incident from a room. Some were busy recording the incident on their mobile phones.

On the condition of anonymity, some locals said that UP members Ujjal Sarkar and Helena Begum came to the local puja mandap on Thursday (October 10) night. Later, at around 12:30pm, he went to drop Helena Begum at her husband home at Bajitpur village driving a motorbike. At that time, Raihan along with his associates went to that home and apprehended them.

Later, they were tied up in front of a shop in Maharajpur Bridge area and beaten severely with sticks. At one stage of the beating, Raihan took off the gold chain from Helena Begum's neck and took away the mobile phones of the two.

Helena Begum is currently undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

None of the victims--Ujjal Sarkar and Helena Begum—and accused Raihan could not be reached for comments as their phones found switched off.

Rajbari Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Sharif Al Rajeeb said no one has filed a complaint with the police so far over the incident. Necessary legal action will be taken if complaints are received.
