Govt scrapping 8 national days, including August 15, March 7

The government has decided to scrape eight national observances, including August 15, the death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which is also marked as National Mourning Day.

Among them, March 17 was Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birthday and National Children's Day; August 5 was Sheikh Hasina’s brother Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal's birth anniversary; August 8 was Hasina's mother Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib’s birth anniversary; August 15 was Bangabandhu’s death anniversary and national mourning day and October 18 was Sheikh Russel day. These are being cancelled.

The list of cancelled days also includes the historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu, National Constitution Day on November 4, and Smart Bangladesh Day on December 12.
