Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed has called 12 High Court Division judges for tea following various allegations of corruption and irregularities against them.
The invitation was extended on Tuesday morning (October 16).
Supreme Court sources reveal that these judges are facing accusations of corruption and misconduct. Additionally, they have been accused of supporting the fallen ruling Awami League regime, which its critics label as fascist.
In response, the anti-discrimination student movement has launched a High Court siege program, demanding the resignation of what they term the "fascist" judges aligned with the Awami League. The program was announced on Tuesday (October 15) by movement coordinators Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah.
In anticipation of the student-led demonstration, security has been heightened in and around the High Court area. As of Wednesday morning, additional police forces, including plainclothes officers, were stationed around the High Court gates and surrounding areas to ensure order.
Such practice of inviting for tea in government and autonomous entities was last time seen in after January 11, 2007 changeover.
