Awami League has criticised the media for publishing a fake resignation letter of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Publishing a poorly edited resignation letter on the Facebook pages of the country's TV channels is disgraceful, it said in a post on Facebook on Monday (September 16).
The party pointed out that the resignation letter still features the Mujib Year logo, which ended in 2021. Hasina's signature has also been copied from Google, the post said, highlighting the difference in pixels.
August 5 was 21 Shrabon, but the fake resignation letter being circulated cites the date as 20 Shrabon, it said.
The party urged the country's media not to ridicule themselves by being blatantly manipulated. It said that Hasina did not go through the formalities of resigning. She went to India directly from Tejgaon by plane.
Hasina resigned from office and fled to India on August 5 during a student-led mass movement. Her departure jeopardised the party’s political future and the safety of its supporters.
During her 15-year rule, the Awami League-led government enacted many draconian laws to muzzle the freedom of the media and freedom of speech.
