Students of Dhaka University (DU) protest demanding a ban on all forms of political activities on campus on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
Some students of Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday held a protest demanding a ban on all forms of party politics on campus.
The protest began in front of the university's Central Library and continued with a procession through various areas of the campus, ending with a brief rally at the Raju Memorial Sculpture.
The protesters chanted various slogans.
During the rally, speakers said they would not return to classes until party politics was banned, and they vowed to continue their movement until their demand was met.
Monirul Islam, a student of the Department of Physics, said: "When politics is involved, it disrupts the education of students like us in the Science Faculty. During the regime of student politics, we were forced to participate in political programs from 10am to late afternoon, even if we had classes. We no longer want to see politics on this campus."
Baidid, a student from the Department of Islamic History and Culture, said: "If there was no politics, our brothers and sisters would not have been injured by the Chhatra league on July 15. Politics at Dhaka University should be under the control of Ducsu. Anyone who tries to bring politics back to our campus will face resistance from the general students."
